Funding for each event is determined through budget preparations and is based on strategic goals of the organization.
Selection per OHS and/or NAC Executive chairperson and/or Local executive.
Preference given to members who have not previously attended.
Members chosen must not have attended the previous year.
Attendance via ZOOM only.
Must be a Local 75 member to apply for funding (POLICY 001-M-2018, specifically 1.4 defines criteria)
To be eligible, a SUN Local OHS or NAC Committee member/alternate must:
Attend two (2) OHS Committee Meetings/inspections or NAC committee meeting(s) in the same calendar year of the leadership series applicable to the role.
8.1 If selected for Event, member is responsible to get LOA form for scheduled shift from the Local office. (Salary Continuance)
8.2 If attending on a day off, the Local pays you directly.
TD1 on file at the Local is required.
8.3 Members attending virtual education programs that have been approved in the budget shall be paid income continuance up to twelve (12) hours. Members attending on a day off shall be paid a minimum of four (4) hours and for any event longer than four (4) hours, shall receive eight (8) hours pay.
Upon notification of the designated Local representative, members on a day off, will be paid in accordance with this policy if they were in attendance and had to leave a meeting due to illness or pressing necessity while on authorized SUN business. In such instances, members on paid union leave are required to submit the appropriate leave with the employer.
8.4 OHS/NAC Committee Member/alternate
Requests for access to the funding must be received by email to the OHS or NAC Chairperson.
8.5 Expectations
- Members are expected to attend all portions of the meeting, workshop, school, or convention. If for any reason the member must be absent for a portion of the event, it is the member’s responsibility to notify the designated Local representative. Members are expected to provide notification as soon as possible.
- Members attending funded events are expected to participate in the assigned work.
- PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT SIGN IN YOU WILL NOT BE PAID FOR THE PERIOD MISSED. THIS IS THE MEMBER’S RESPONSIBILITY
8.6 Attendance Policy
If you need to cancel your attendance to an event it must be done 7 days prior to start of event. If unable to cancel by 7 days prior, it will inhibit you from applying for Local funding for a period of 12 months without extenuating circumstances (including following year’s SUN Leadership series).
Members are responsible for all cancellation fees or charges.
Please Note: if member/Local able to replace attendee with no financial loss to the Local, no loss of future privileges for conference funding will occur.
*All extenuating circumstances will be considered. The Local Executive will review individual applications and have the final decision regarding future privileges.
