In recognition of the growing use and impact of social media, SUN Local 75 has introduced a Social Media Policy.
The Policy applies to the use of social media within all SUN Local 75 social media platforms. This policy does not seek to regulate a member’s personal use of social media platforms.
The key principles of the Policy are as follows.
Local 75 Facebook page shall be comprised of any member who meets one of the following criteria:
a) pays local 75 dues and has done so in the previous 274 days at any given time.
b) is on an approved leave of absence from a Local 75 position as defined in the CBA
c) if Local 75 is not your home base/unit, you must have the ability to work regular time hours within Local 75 and meet the requirements of (a) above.
- SUN Local 75 members are encouraged to use social media to promote the flow of useful information and support our SUN Local 75 operations.
- Social media posts should not violate the Local 75 mission, vision, values, policies, or the law.
- Posts must not be (or potentially be seen as) offensive, harassing, derogatory, demeaning, off-colour, sexual in content, creating an unsafe working environment or otherwise inappropriate in a union environment.
- If members encounter a situation while using a social medium that threatens to become antagonistic, members should disengage from the dialogue in a polite manner and seek the advice of a SUN Local 75 Executive member.
- Members must not make official comments on social media platforms on behalf of SUN Local 75.
- Local 75 Executive reserve the right to monitor and maintain all Local 75 social media platforms.
- Should a concern arise with the monitoring or use of the Local 75 social media platforms members must email the PR & Education Chair at preducationchair@sunlocal75.ca to further discuss and remedy the concern.
